Gordon- a winner again - Oct 5th Best veteranFantastic news! Cheadle Animal Welfare Society members have had a great Christmas due to the news that Gordon ‘our’ 6/7 year old crossbreed dog who has been looking for a home for the last 5 years has finally found a fabulous one. He has enjoyed his first Christmas in 5 years out of the kennels. We have been holding our breath to see how Gordon would settle in his new home before announcing this wonderful news. We didn’t want to temp fate by saying anything too soon so have waited to see how things have gone!

His new owners had first seen Gordon on the Society’s website last summer and became interested in him then but the time only became right to come and meet him at the beginning of December.

After a number of introductory walks with Gordon, Tracy and Terrie-Ann (Gordon’s special walkers), Vicky and Kev his new ‘Mum and Dad’ walked him a few more times on their own and also took him home for a day’s visit to see how he might get on. That was it, Gordon made himself at home immediately on his first visit and decided that was where he should be forever!

There were a lot of tears when he was waived off from the kennels, but tears of happiness for him.

He has enjoyed a fantastic Christmas with lots of presents and walks as well as time out lounging whilst watching TV! He has been such a good boy and has been so clean in the house asking to go out whenever he needs to! He has patient new owners who already love him to bits and will help him go from strength to strength in his new life as he faces lots of new experiences that he hasn’t come across for years. Walking in the dark for instance is a really new experience for Gordon after always being tucked up in a kennel while it’s dark!

Everyone at The Society is so very happy for Gordon and can’t believe how fantastically well he has settled into his new home after being in a kennel environment for so long. We are so pleased that Vicky and Kev had planned his rehoming carefully with us. They were fully aware of what it might take to re-home a dog after being in kennels for such a long period but Gordon might have been with them years the way he has been behaving so far. What a shame it has taken so long to find him a home but we are sure his future years will be very happy ones.

We would like to thank all of his followers who sent him treats and goodies over the years and to everyone who has sponsored him through our Pals for Paws Scheme’. We will put his ‘Success’ story onto the website soon and will add updates to it as time goes on for people to check on his progress.

What a great way to end the year and start the new one.

Updates

January 25th 2015

Gordon is doing really well. He progresses weekly as he gets to learn new routines and meet new people.  He is quite happy to sit a while alongside Vicky while she works. If he tires of that he takes himself off to his bed or more likely the settee for a change! He behaved very well at his local vet’s and got a fuss and a treat from the staff when he visited recently.

He’s still being very well behaved in the house and whenever they have to leave him on his own which is great news. He comes in now from the garden when called. He has a training plan to help him progress, particularly with regard to his ‘hit and miss’ reaction to other dogs- sometimes he can be distracted with treats and sits while they go past but at other times he is too interested in them to do that!  They have walked with someone who used to walk him a few years ago (and took him to a couple of dog training classes at that time) and her dog. He was fine with a bit of distance kept between them-so hopefully they can do that regularly.

He’s already gained a number of new admirers as he goes about his daily activities! He is a very good boy and we are so pleased for him. Vicky and Kev are giving him a new lease of life which he richly deserves.

March 2015

Gordon is doing ‘just great’! Learning new things all of the time. He has a safe place to run free and play now as well as to continue his training. Tracy went to see him today and took these photos of him at play and enjoying a chew she no doubt took along for him!  Everywhere we go we still get people asking how he is doing. As they can see, he is doing very well. How happy he looks.

June 2015- Gordon on his Summer hols!

Well who would have thought this time last year that Gordon would have been spending this June on his hols- Fantastic! This is an update from Vicky.

‘We got back from our trip to Northumberland yesterday – Gordon had a fantastic time! He loved the beaches, especially the one at Beadnell, where our holiday cottage was, which was big and fairly empty so we let him off the lead and he could run around to his heart’s content. Not too bothered about swimming, but he did have a paddle – and a taste of sea water! He did try to make a couple of new doggy friends but was a bit over-enthusiastic for the smaller ones!

He was really well behaved on the journey up and all during the week, including visits to Dunstanburgh Castle ruins, tea rooms and cafes, pub beer gardens and several shops.’
